Bartel joined Beijing men’s basketball in 1988. He has played for Beijing and Xinjiang in CBA career. He won the CBA regular season MVP(2008-09 season, 2009-10 season, 2010-11 season) for 3 times and was selected as a CBA All-Star for 14 times, he won the CBA All-Star game MVP twice (2002, 2005). In October, 2013, Bartel joined NBL Shaanxi Xinda basketball club.
Bartel signed a contract with Denver Nuggets as a free agent on October 3, 2001. His NBA career successively worked for nuggets, piston, Spurs, Raptors, magic and Knicks. Bartel won the championship with Spurs in the 2002-03 season. He became the first person in China to win the NBA championship.
In 1993, Bartel was selected for the first time in China men’s basketball. During his career in the national team, he represented the national team in 4 Asian Championships (1993, 1999, 2001, 2003), 2 Asian Games (1998, 2002), one World Championship (2002) and three Olympic Games (1996, 2000, 2004) won four Asian Championships and one Asian Games champion (1998) following China’s men’s basketball.
On July 28, 2015, Bartel officially announced his retirement. In 2018, Bartel was elected chairman of Inner Mongolia Basketball Association. At present, Battel is also the leader of Inner Mongolia Women’s basketball.
